Weather forecasters have warned the strongest storms of the year are set to batter Britain tonight and tomorrow. Gale force winds, gusting up to 75 mph, will sweep in from the south and south east. They are expected to cause damage to property and trees and disrupt transport. According to the Met Office, the storm will bring heavy rain, increasing the likelihood of flooding. The areas most likely to be affected are Wales, the Midlands, northern and eastern counties of England. "Very strong and potentially damaging south-westerly gales, gusting up to 75 mph, are possible," a Met Office statement said. Sky weather forecaster Lucy Verasamy said the path the storm would take was uncertain. But it is thought it will come up from the south and then head over to East Anglia and the north east. "The flip side is that most of this will be happening overnight so it won't have such an impact on people," she said. "Driving conditions in the morning will be bad as there is likely to be a lot of surface water," she said. She added it was unusual to see a storm of this strength at this time of year, especially given how mild November has been. Cross-Channel ferry services are also likely to be hit.
